BRCA 8th Rallycross Nationals Report from UK Team Manager Jon Dell
"Really happy with the results from the round 3 UK national this past weekend. For this race the superbly prepared track, which had drivers fully pinned in and out of every single corner, the high humidity which came and went, along with high (UK) temperatures provided a mean test for the engines and tyres. A test in which the Alpha engines came through with some excellent results.
Neil Cragg TQ’ed two qualifying rounds to place second in the listings behind class act Elliott Boots. 4 other Alpha powered drivers joined Neil directly into the semi finals with Michael Lewis 5th, Lewis Jones 9th, Jack Embling 11th and Matthew Lewis 20th. From the quarter finals three others in Jon Spencer 27th, Jack Hirst 30th and Connor Cocker 34th, all with a good chance to add to the semi's. In the end Jack and Jon superbly bumped, Jon making his first semi final and achieving his target for the year. So with 7 Alpha engines in the semi finals, the Alpha Dragon 4 was again the best supported brand of engine in the semi finals, 3 in one, 4 in the other.
Neil won his semi final, although it got a bit tense mid race when a flame out during the first pit stop due to low idle took away a comfortable lead. A quick restart got Neil back out in third and he worked on getting back to the lead. Whilst not ideal, it was a nice warning to turn up the idle for the main final. Matthew and Jack didn’t progress, but a semi final is still a solid result.
In the second semi, Mike has a good run to finish third and Jack Embling 6th. Unfortunately we lost Lewis at this point, a few errors with a bad one in the pit lane put the pressure on and he needed to make a pass on the last lap to make the main. It didn’t happen, and following two great national rounds, it was disappointing for Lewis not to be in the main final. Next time buddy.
So three Alpha engines in the main to be equal highest engine brand with Jack Embling running on JConcepts tyres & Corally fuel to put more XFactory UK brands into the main final. The final went perfectly well if your name was Elliott Boots, for everyone else it was struggle. Neil got away well, but to many errors cost dearly and by his own admission was happy with 3rd. Mike also started well and was in the 3rd place hunt near the end, but took a gamble with fuel which saw him run out of fuel on the last lap. In the end it was an ok gamble as he only dropped from 5th to 6th as other cars did not cross the line for another lap. Jack came in 7th, again had a good start ran 2nd for a while, but made to many errors to keep up with the podium pack. Good progress from Jack who is not far away from his past best.
Another podium result for Alpha (well done and thank you Neil) making it three podiums from three events, and the dominant numbers are showing that our product has the high performance and reliability that is needed. Round 4 is in just a few weeks in Wales, with the European championship in-between which unfortunately I’m not attending, but Alpha will be represented with Mike, Matt Lewis and Jack, along with our other euro friends. Good luck to all at the Euros."
